Activity 1 1-13-11 Surface Chemical Make-up

What is the chemicals and their structures that make up cardboard?
It is mostly made up of cellulose. -(CHOH)



What is the chemicals and their structures that make up styrofoam?
It is made up of polystyrene.



What is the chemicals and their structures that make up waxes?
Wax is a plastic at room temperature and doesn't usually melt about 113 degrees F.



Explain why water is attracted to cardboard and not styrofoam.
 Cardboard has a strong electronegativity so water is attracted to it; whereas styrofoam is electrically neutral so water is not attracted to it.
